Cattle on Feed Report Contains Good News
Dr. Curt Lacy (UGA)
USDA released the May Cattle on Feed (COF) report this afternoon. The report contained some encouraging news for cattlemen. Basically, we had one percent fewer COF in May than most private analysts expected. These lower numbers were caused by larger marketings and lower placements than many had forecast. Other notables mentioned in the report include:
- Cattle placed in April down 15 percent compared to 2011
- Fed cattle marketings in April the same as a 2011
- Other disappearance down 30 percent compared to 2011
All in all, the report should be viewed as a positive for prices in the coming weeks.
